This new emission-legal (50 state) Retro-Kit engine conversion kit is designed for 1991-93 Chevrolet and GMC 10, 20 and 30-series trucks with 2-wheel drive, originally equipped with a 454 TBI engine and 4L80E automatic overdrive transmission. (Will not work on 4 wheel drive because of exhaust interference). Factory engineered for improved towing performance, the massive GEN 6 502 big-block is a bolt-in replacement for a high mileage 454.
The increased displacement and improved breathing produces a significant improvement in pulling power over the production 454 truck engine.
The 502 engine is tuned for torque with high velocity round port heads and Vortec L29 hydraulic roller camshaft. This combination yields 515 lb ft. of torque at a stump pulling 2800 rpm and 320 horsepower at 4400 rpm. This retro-kit engine package uses the same rugged bottom end as the 502 HO engine assembly. The siamesed bore block incorporates four-bolt main bearing caps, a forged steel crankshaft, heavy duty connecting rods and forged aluminum pistons. The long block assembly comes fully assembled and is designed to utilize the existing 454 TBI inlet manifold, ignition system and accessory drive components.
A specific engine computer chip, dual catalyst exhaust system, and additional fuel and transmission hardware is included to complete the conversion. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has issued an exemption order for this conversion.
